Netanyahu Gaza hostage deal

Netanyahu Shifts Focus: Hostages Over Hamas?

Netanyahu Gaza hostage deal sees new momentum as PM says “many opportunities have opened up” to rescue hostages after Iran strikes.

Speaking at a Shin Bet facility, Netanyahu emphasized the dual mission of resolving the Gaza issue and bringing home the hostages. This marks a shift from his earlier stance where “total victory” over Hamas was the main objective.

Pressure from Hostage Families and Trump Builds

Netanyahu’s softened rhetoric follows mounting criticism from hostage families and political rivals. The Hostages Families Forum responded, urging for a comprehensive deal rather than military rescues.

“What is needed is release, not rescue,” the forum said, warning that language may decide life or death for hostages.

Simultaneously, President Donald Trump publicly demanded Israel take a deal:

“MAKE THE DEAL IN GAZA. GET THE HOSTAGES BACK!!!” he posted on social media.

Ceasefire Deal on the Table: 60 Days for 28 Hostages

U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff has proposed a 60-day ceasefire, including the release of 10 living and 18 deceased hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Talks would aim at a comprehensive ceasefire, a core Hamas demand.

Hamas has signaled willingness, but insists on permanent ceasefire guarantees—a point Israel had historically rejected.

War Drags On: Strikes and Evacuations Continue in Gaza

Despite ceasefire talks, Israeli airstrikes continue. Over the weekend, more than 150 Palestinians were killed.
The IDF issued new evacuation orders for northern Gaza, further displacing residents already trapped in a humanitarian catastrophe.

According to Palestinian Health Ministry, over 56,000 Palestinians, including 17,000 children, have died since the war began. On Sunday alone, strikes in Jabalya killed at least 15 people, many of them children.

A Turning Point for Netanyahu and Gaza?

Trump’s intervention and Israel’s recent military success in Iran appear to have created a rare diplomatic window. According to security sources, even the Israeli military now supports exploring a diplomatic solution in Gaza after more than 20 months of war.

Netanyahu, who is currently seeking to delay corruption trial proceedings amid the chaos, may be forced to shift his political narrative from military strength to political compromise.
