US revokes visas

No Official Reason Shared by US Authorities

US revokes visas: The United States has withdrawn tourist visas from Marina del Pilar Ávila, governor of Baja California, and her husband Carlos Torres.

The announcement was made by Ávila in a social media post on Sunday, May 11. She did not specify the reason behind the Trump administration’s decision.

Ávila posted on X (formerly Twitter), “I fully trust that we will satisfactorily clarify the situation.”

Consular Office Confirms Revocation

US revokes visas as the Baja California press office confirms Ávila’s tourist visa was officially canceled by authorities. Her husband also addressed the situation in a Facebook post.

“This does not represent an accusation, investigation, or formal indictment by any authority,” Torres stated.

He added that his “conscience is clear.”

U.S. Embassy Keeps Details Confidential

A spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy told The Associated Press that visa records are confidential. They declined to share any case-specific details.

Bilateral Talks Held Days Before

Interestingly, the visa revocation follows a meeting last Thursday between Ávila and U.S. Consul General Christopher Teal in Tijuana. They discussed regional security, economic development, and human rights.

Baja California has the highest pedestrian crossing rates into the United States, especially from Tijuana to California.

Situation Under Scrutiny

As of now, there is no formal link between the recent visa decision and any political or legal action. The Morena party, to which both Ávila and Torres belong, remains silent on the broader implications.

Updates are expected as more information becomes available.
